3 Minute Read:
Do you struggle with excess fat in the midsection or other areas of the body (including the upper arms, jawline, and lower legs)?
Well, chances are that you do, since excess fat is one of the most common and frustrating aesthetic issues that women and men deal with.
And while these pockets of excess fat can keep you from looking and feeling your best, the good news is that liposuction can help you achieve the thinner, more contoured appearance you desire.
Liposuction is one of the most (if not the most) effective forms of cosmetic fat reduction and advancements in technology have only led to improvements in the trusted technique.
Below, we’ll discuss two liposuction advancements that offer patients easier and more complete fat removal while improving the recovery experience.
What Are My Liposuction Options?
At Birmingham Specialists, Dr. Oliver and Dr. Jack are excited to offer their patients tumescent and power-assisted liposuction. These two improved liposuction techniques can help remove more fat than ever before to achieve the very best results possible.
Tumescent Liposuction
For this liposuction variation, a tumescent solution (which contains lidocaine, which is a local anesthetic) is injected into the target area. This solution helps to dislodge fat cells, which allows for more complete removal of subcutaneous fat and better results.
Because of the lidocaine in the tumescent solution, the treatment and recovery is well-tolerated. The tumescent solution helps to limit blood loss during surgery and minimize swelling after your procedure.
Because of the minimized swelling, you can expect to have a shorter recovery time than with traditional liposuction (without the tumescent fluid), meaning that you’ll be able to show off your results even sooner!
Power-Assisted Liposuction
Similar to a tumescent procedure, power-assisted (PAL) liposuction allows for higher-volume fat removal. With this procedure, the cannula that is inserted into the body has a vibrating tip, which helps to loosen fat tissue before removal. This technique can effectively remove more dense fat from the body than traditional liposuction ever could.
Other benefits of PAL liposuction include the fact that it cuts down on the total surgical time so that you can get to your recovery even sooner, and you can expect a shorter and easier recovery because there is less tissue damage during the procedure.
What If I Have Excess Fat and Sagging Skin?
While liposuction is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures (it was the fourth most performed cosmetic surgery procedure in 2020), the reality is that liposuction only allows for fat to be removed from the body.
This means that it does not help correct other aesthetic issues, such as sagging skin. However, liposuction can be used in conjunction with tummy tuck surgery (abdominoplasty). With a tummy tuck, stubborn fat is removed from the midsection, abdominal muscles are tightened, and excess skin is removed to give you the trimmed and toned physique you’ve been looking for.
Liposuction is also be used in many other plastic surgery procedures that help to remove sagging skin, including:
If you struggle with stubborn fat in your body, there’s no reason to put off looking your best. You can trust Dr. Oliver and Dr. Jack to help you achieve your ideal results with the help of either tumescent liposuction or power-assisted liposuction.
